The Story

Closed-off galley → open-plan showpiece.

The Challenge

The homeowners had lived with a closed 1990s galley kitchen for 18 years — separate from the family room, oak cabinets, laminate counters, builder-grade appliances. They entertained often but couldn't keep eye contact with guests. They wanted an open-plan kitchen that could anchor a dinner party for 14 without feeling like a hallway.

The Solution

We removed the load-bearing wall between the kitchen and family room and installed a 16-foot engineered LVL beam to carry the load. The new open plan revolves around a 10-foot waterfall island in honed Calacatta Gold marble, with seating for six and integrated under-counter beverage drawers.

Custom inset cabinetry in Benjamin Moore White Dove. 48-inch Wolf range with custom plaster hood. Sub-Zero panel-ready refrigeration. Brushed brass plumbing (Waterstone). Wide-plank European white-oak floors continuous from kitchen through living areas.
